Our Mission

The Greater Venice Florida Dog Club mission is to promote activities that will lead to the best achievable health and welfare of all dogs, both pure bred and others. To this end we provide a welcoming and supportive environment to exchange information and the opportunity to participate in training programs that strengthen the human-canine bond and the possibility of obtaining an AKC title.

Our History

The Greater Venice Florida Dog Club was started in April of 1979 by dog people of all ages, dedicated to the sport of DOGS. The initial objectives of the club were to further the advancement and protection of purebred dogs, encourage sportsmanlike competition in dog shows and obedience trials, and conduct sanctioned matches, dog shows, and obedience trials under the rules and regulations of the American Kennel Club.

During the many years that have followed, the club has grown to include activities for ALL dogs! Some of the various activities the club has been involved with include: Venice Sun Fiesta, Paws in the Park, and the Farmers Market -- working with the Sarasota County to establish the Woodmere Dog Park and purchasing the sign for the park -- providing Kevlar bullet proof jackets for some of the Sarasota County canine unit dogs -- donating to Morris Animal Foundation and the AKC Canine Health Foundation -- providing scholarship money for a University of Florida veterinary student from Sarasota County -- just to name a few.

Our members are proud of the GVFDC training center, offering classes for puppies, basic obedience, canine good citizen, rally, competitive novice and open obedience, focus, fun and games and conformation presently.

Please come and share your "doggie" life with us!
